Reflection 1:
1. To me, writing means being able to express your thoughts, ideas, and opinions in a way that other people can understand. Writing is important because it helps people communicate and connect with others as well as document things for the generations to come.
2. I think the most important thing to know about writing is that nobody is good at it right away. Writing takes practice, revision, and time to be able to improve. It also takes time to develop one’s own style and technique.
3. The hardest part of writing for me is usually starting and organizing my ideas in a clear way so other people can understand the main point.
4. One goal I have for ENC 1101 this semester is to become more confident in my writing and improve how I organize essays and explain my ideas. I also would like to develop my creative skillset for writing in a way that makes it more interesting.
5. A) Writing Processes & Adaptation means learning what writing methods work best for you and being able to change your usual practices depending on the assignment.
B) Multiple Literacies & Goal Setting means using skills such as reading, speaking, technology, and communication to help improve your writing.
C) Variation across Contexts means understanding that writing changes depending on the situation, audience, or place like school, work, or social life.
D) Decision Making & Production means making good choices when writing for different audiences and purposes.
E) Writing and Power means understanding how language and writing can have an impact on people, identity, and society.
F) Revision means learning how to use feedback and make changes to improve your writing instead of just keeping the first draft.
Reflection 2:
Part 1
When I was working on Essay 2, I watched the video several times and took notes on the message, target audience, and how ethos, pathos, and logos were used by the speakers. After that, I organized my ideas and planned how each paragraph would be structured before I started writing. One thing I learned from completing Essay 2 is that taking notes before writing helps me stay organized. One thing I could improve for next time is providing more detail when explaining my argument. The easiest part of Essay 2 was identifying the rhetorical appeals used throughout the video. The hardest part was explaining how those appeals helped persuade the audience. For my next essay, I will spend more time developing my ideas and analysis.
Part 2
Essay 2 helped me work toward the learning outcomes. Throughout the writing process, I planned, drafted, and revised my essay. I also analyzed both the visuals and the tone of the speakers in the video. I also examined the purpose of the message and the audience it was directed toward. Revising my essay helped me make my ideas clearer and stronger.
Part 3
At the beginning of the semester, one of my goals was to become more confident in my writing and improve how I organize my ideas. Through the essays and other assignments we completed throughout the semester, I have become more confident when expressing my ideas and organizing them. I still think I have areas where I can improve, but I feel more confident in my writing abilities than I did at the start of the semester.
